Explanation: With USC and Oklahoma off last week it was unlikely that there would be any movement at the top of my power rankings. There was no movement at the very top but there was some movement in the top 5. You might find it strange that I moved Missouri all the way from 3rd to 6th even though they beat Buffalo 42-21. I was just unimpressed by the Tigers allowing 21 points to Buffalo and leading just 27-21 midway through the 3rd quarter. On the other hand, I was impressed with Georgia’s victory over ASU on the road. The Dawgs opened up the passing game and it could have easily been worse than 27-10. While Florida still didn’t look that impressive offensively, they blew out Tennessee at Neyland Stadium and that counts for something. LSU won at Jordan-Hare Stadium and I thought their QB’s proved they were more than capable of leading the Bayou Bengals back to the SEC Title Game. So I moved all 3 SEC teams ahead of Missouri. I kept Texas and Bama where they were as they turned in the blowout wins expected of them. I moved Penn State up to 9th because the Lions had yet another impressive blowout win over an overmatched opponent. They’ve scored at least 45 points in every game this year. For the first time this season my power rankings contain a team with a loss. In fact, there are two teams with a loss in my rankings. Even though Auburn lost at home, I only moved them back a spot to 10th because I thought they were much more impressive than they were a week earlier in beating Mississippi State. They nearly won over a very good LSU team, and I just don’t think there are that many teams that would beat Auburn on a neutral field right now. I only moved Texas Tech up one space to 11th because I’m not sure what to make of a blowout win over UMass. I mean, we know they can blowout an FCS team at home; I want to see what they do against the Big XII before I move them up. It might seem curious that I moved South Florida out of the rankings, considering that they won this weekend, but I was just extremely unimpressed by their effort against FIU. They won just 17-9 over what is traditionally one of the worst teams in all of college football. I moved Ohio State back into the rankings even though they weren’t that impressive against Troy. My reasoning for this is that I still thought Ohio State was very good going into last week, and now that they are starting to transition into a team led by Terrelle Pryor, I think they will be a much more dangerous team offensively when Beanie Wells gets back.
