Season Résumé Rankings After Week 10

1. Alabama 9-0 (1st)
2. Texas 9-0 (2nd)
3. Florida 9-0 (3rd)
4. TCU 9-0 (5th)
5. Boise State 9-0 (6th)
6. Cincinnati 9-0 (7th)
7. Georgia Tech 9-1 (9th)
8. Iowa 9-1 (4th)
9. Houston 8-1 (NR)
10. Oregon 7-2 (8th)

Comments: Determining these rankings got a bit more difficult this week. It’s easy to rank all undefeated teams over all other teams as long as the schedules are somewhat similar. But it’s harder to choose between 1-loss teams and 2-loss teams. The top 3 teams remained the same this week. The 4th team, Iowa, lost for the first time this year and thus they were dropped below all undefeated teams. I then had to compare Iowa’s season against the other 1-loss teams and I decided that only Georgia Tech has had a more impressive season so far. Houston was the 3rd 1-loss team in the rankings this week. It was a hard choice considering the fact that the Cougars have a bad loss (by 17 at UTEP) and a very near loss against a disappointing Tulsa team. But when I looked at the other 1-loss teams there was really no other choice. Pitt’s loss at NC State is bad and their best wins are against Rutgers and South Florida. Utah’s loss at Oregon by 7 points is nothing to be ashamed of but their best win is probably an overtime victory at home against Air Force. They have several other not-too-impressive wins over weak teams. In the end I decided that Oregon’s 2-loss résumé was more impressive than the performances of Utah and Pittsburgh.
