Comments: After one week of relative calmness in my power rankings this jumped back up to chaos this week. 28 of 32 spots changed this week. 14 teams went up and 14 teams went down. Of the 14 teams going up the rankings, 8 climbed at least 2 spots. Of the 14 teams going the wrong way, 5 slipped by at least 2 spots.

The Minnesota Vikings were the team making the biggest move up the rankings this week, moving up 6 spots from #20 to #14. Carolina made the biggest move in the opposite direction, dropping 7 spots from #19 to #26.

I have a new top team this week. San Francisco moved up 2 spots from #3 to take over the top position from Houston. The Texans’ streak of 3 straight weeks at #1 came to an end, as they dropped 1 spot to #2.

There is also a new bottom team this week, although it’s really a return to the bottom. The Colts moved out of the #32 spot after just 1 week at the bottom, climbing 5 spots from #32 to #27. The Browns returned to the last spot in the rankings after 1 week out, dropping 1 spot from #31 to #32.

The number of undefeated teams shrunk from 3 to 2 this week, as the Cards dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Texans are still my highest ranked undefeated team at #2, while the Falcons are now my lowest ranked unbeaten team at #6.

The number of winless teams also shrunk this week from 2 to 1, as the Saints finally got their first victory of the year. The Browns are now the NFL’s only remaining winless team.

The 2-3 Packers are my highest ranked team with a winning record at #7. The 3-2 Rams are my lowest ranked team with a winning record at #24.

Only 3 teams are currently at .500 on the season. The Steelers are my highest ranked .500 team at #10, while the Colts are my lowest ranked .500 at #27.
