Comments: I thought this might be the right time to start including teams with losses in the rankings but in the end I decided to stick with only undefeated teams for one more week. I have decided how I’m going to grade losses. I’m simply going to use the inverse of my win grades. For example, a loss on the road will earn a zero, while a home loss will earn -2 points. A loss to a great team will earn a zero, while a loss to an average team will earn -2 points. A close loss will earn a zero, while a loss by 2 scores will earn -0.5 points. Etc, etc. It may or may not make any sense mathematically but I like it.

What I will probably do next week is start off by giving each team a grade on the poor-decent-average-good-great scale. That will make it easier because I won’t have to worry about that part of it when adding up the points. I’ll just be able to go to the chart and say that Alabama is worth 4 points and UMass is worth 0 points.

Anyway, for this week we’re not considering teams with losses. In the previous weeks I had been limiting the pool of candidates by setting minimum standards such as a certain number of wins over FBS teams. This week I realized that this was kind of superfluous, as any team with a small number of wins over FBS teams will naturally end up with a rather small point total and therefore would be eliminated anyway. So this week any undefeated FBS team was eligible.

There are 16 remaining undefeated FBS teams. I issued out the points according to my system and came up with the top 10. The results were a little bit surprising.

Once again 9 of 10 spots experienced change this week. Only Notre Dame remained in place at #2.

I switched out 3 teams this week. 5 teams moved up at least 1 spot in my rankings. Only 1 team dropped in the rankings while remaining in the top 10.

After 5 straight weeks at #1, Alabama fell out of the top spot, dropping 2 places to #3. They were the only team to fall in the rankings while still remaining in the top 10.

Oregon State took the biggest fall out of the rankings, dropping out of the top 10 from #3. West Virginia made the biggest splash, entering the rankings at #7.

Florida made the biggest move up the rankings this week, climbing 5 spots from #10 to #5. South Carolina is the new #1 team. They jumped 3 places this week, rising from #4 to the top spot in these rankings.
