The College Football Blog: 2011 Season Résumé Rankings (After Week 9)

Season Résumé Rankings after Week 9

1. LSU 8-0 (1st)

2. Oklahoma State 8-0 (3rd)

3. Alabama 8-0 (2nd)

4. Stanford 8-0 (7th)

5. Boise State 7-0 (5th)

6. Houston 8-0 (8th)

7. Oklahoma 7-1 (NR)

8. Clemson 8-1 (4th)

9. Oregon 7-1 (9th)

10. Arkansas 7-1 (10th)

Out: Kansas State (6th).

Explanation: These rankings weren’t as crazy as I thought they might be this week. LSU stays in the #1 spot. Kansas State was the only team to fall out of the top 10. They got crushed by Oklahoma at home and fell out of these rankings from #6, as they didn’t have enough quality wins to stay in the top 10 with a loss.

Oklahoma State whipped Baylor last week and the Cowboys move up a spot to #2 with Bama dropping down to #3, despite the fact that Bama was off last week. So far, the Big XII has looked like the best conference from top to bottom, and thus Ok State has had more opportunities for quality wins than Bama.

Stanford made the biggest move of any team in these rankings, climbing 3 spots to #4 after their win at USC. They have now posted a couple of quality wins to go along with all the 30-point victories so their résumé is a lot stronger.

Two BCS outsiders are at #5 and #6. Boise State was off last week and the Broncos held at #5. Houston moved up 2 spots to #6 mostly because other teams (KSU and Clemson) lost, while they remained unbeaten.

Oklahoma jumps back into the rankings at #7 this week. The Sooners were the only new team in these rankings. They destroyed KSU and ended up taking Kansas State’s place in the top 10.

Clemson took the biggest drop of any team still in my rankings, as they fell 4 spots to #8. You might have expected the Tigers to fall out of these rankings completely, but the rest of their résumé is still stronger than most 1-loss teams.

Rounding out the top 10, Oregon (#9) and Arkansas (#10) both got shaky wins last week and remained in place in these rankings.
