Predicted Conference Champions
SEC: Florida: I think Florida has the best team in the country but I don’t think it’s possible for them to go undefeated. They should get by Hawaii and Miami easily at home and then they have a bye before they play at Tennessee. I don’t have any real reason to pick them to lose in Knoxville but I just can’t see them going undefeated in the SEC so I’m picking this to be the game that bites them. They should crush Ole Miss and Ark and then they have LSU at home. They should be able to take care of LSU in the swamp. After that they have a bye, a relatively easy home game again Kentucky, and then they play UGA in Jacksonville. Georgia will be playing for a 4th straight week and will be coming off a game at LSU. I think this year the schedule favors Florida, and I think they’ll beat the Dawgs. They should crush Vandy and have no problem with SC at home. After demolishing the Citadel, I see them handling FSU again to finish the regular season 11-1. With a 7-1 conference record and the win over Georgia, I have the Gators going to the SEC Championship and beating Auburn to win the title.
Big Ten: Ohio State: I think Ohio State has by far the best team in the Big Ten again and I don’t think they’ll be challenged. However, I see them losing at USC on September 13th for their lone loss of the year. They should be 4-1 heading into a matchup with Wisconsin at Camp Randall the first week of October. With Wisconsin coming off a game at Michigan, I think Ohio State wins a close one. After pounding Purdue and Michigan State, I think the Buckeyes will win over Penn State at home again in the last week of October. They should roll over NW and Illinois and then spank Michigan once again to finish the year undefeated in the Big Ten with an 11-1 mark overall.
Pac 10: USC: The Trojans are easily the best team in the Pac-10 again this year, in my opinion, and I don’t think they’ll be challenged. With the homefield advantage, I like them to beat Ohio State on September 13th to put themselves in position to play for the National Championship. I think they’ll win at Oregon State and then get past Oregon and ASU at home to get to 5-0 and from there it should be smooth sailing. After hammering Washington State, Arizona, and Washington, they may have a tough time at home against Cal but they’ll prevail. After crushing Stanford and Notre Dame, I see them beating UCLA to finish the regular season a perfect 12-0.
ACC: FSU: I think there are a few teams better than the Seminoles in the ACC but they have the best conference schedule of the top teams in the Atlantic Division. I think they’ll just get past Wake in their ACC opener on September 20th and then beat Colorado to finish September 4-0. I see them losing at Miami in the first week of October but beating VT in the final week of the month. They should be 4-1 in the ACC heading into the Bowden Bowl on November 8th, and with the homefield advantage, I see them getting by the Tigers. I think they’ll lose at Maryland on November 22nd to finish 6-2 in the ACC but with wins over Wake and Clemson they’ll win the tie-breaker and go to the conference title game. After losing again to Florida to finish the regular season 9-3, I see them beating Miami in the ACC Championship Game to take the title.
Big XII: Oklahoma: I think Oklahoma has one of the best teams in the country and I like their schedule a lot. They should cruise into the Red River Shootout with a 5-0 record and I don’t think the Longhorns have what it takes to keep up with the Sooners. I don’t think they’ll be tested again until they play Texas Tech on November 22nd, and with a bye week before hand and the homefield advantage, I believe they’ll win that one too. I see them getting past Oklahoma State to finish the regular season 12-0. I think they’ll meet Missouri again in the Big XII Championship Game and this time I think it’ll be close, but I like the Sooners to win and take the title.
Big East: West Virginia: The Mountaineers should be one of the most explosive teams in the country again, and with a decent schedule, I think they’ll win the Big East title outright. I believe they’ll be 6-0 going into a big Thursday night game with Auburn on October 23rd. With the homefield advantage I see them getting by the Tigers and then winning their next two games to get to 9-0. After a bye, I think they’ll win at Louisville but I see them getting tripped up by Pitt again, this time on the road in the Backyard Brawl. I look for WV to play USF for the conference championship on December 6th, and with the homefield advantage, I think they’ll beat the warm weather Bulls to win the Big East title and finish the year 11-1.
MWC: Utah: I think Utah is the best team from a non-BCS conference and their schedule works out well. I believe they’ll lose their opener at Michigan but I don’t think they’ll fall again. They should be 4-1 when Oregon State comes to town for a Thursday nighter on October 2nd. I think they’ll win that one and be 8-1 as they host TCU on Thursday, November 6th. I think they’ll win a close one over the Frogs, and after stomping San Diego State, I think they’ll beat BYU at home in a classic to win the Mountain West title and finish the year 11-1.
WAC: Boise State: The Broncos should be the strongest team in the WAC this year and their schedule works out well too. I think they’ll lose at Oregon on September 20th to fall to 2-1, but they won’t lose again. I like them to get past Southern Miss on the road and smash Hawaii at home in October. They should cruise into a date with Nevada on the road November 22nd with a 9-1 record, and I like them to beat the Wolf Pack in a close game. I see them winning another tough game over Fresno State at home in the final game of the season to win the WAC and finish the year 11-1.
CUSA: Tulsa: I believe Tulsa is the strongest team in a very weak conference. I expect them to be 8-0 with thoughts of the BCS in their minds at the end of October. But I see them losing at Arkansas on November 1st. I think they’ll lose at Houston after a week off, then beat Tulane to clinch the West Division, and then lose at Marshall in the final week to finish the season 9-3. I see them beating East Carolina in the CUSA Championship Game to win the title.
MAC: Central Michigan: The Chippewas are the strongest team in the MAC again and with a manageable schedule, I see them winning a 3rd straight title. I think they’ll lose at Georgia and at Purdue to start the season 2-2, but I don’t see them falling again after that. I think they’ll be 3-0 in the MAC when they host Western Michigan on October 18th and they should win a tight one over the Broncos. I think they’ll eke by Toledo on the road and then knock off Indiana in Bloomington. They should get by Ball State at home on November 19th and beat EM in the last game of the year to finish undefeated in conference play with a 10-2 record overall. I think they’ll beat Bowling Green in the MAC Championship Game to win the title again.
SBC: Florida Atlantic: FAU should be the toughest team in the SBC again and I don’t think they’ll be challenged much. I think they’ll lose at Texas, at Michigan State, and in a close game at Minnesota to open the year 1-3 but I think they’ll win from that point on. I see them winning a tight game over Troy at home on Tuesday night, October 7th, and I think they’ll get past ULM on the road on October 25th. They should roll from there on out to finish 7-0 in the conference and win the SBC title with a 9-3 overall record.
